Efrain and Karen arrived and we went down to Eric's room. I was fascinated by the tattoo gun and all the motions of preparation he went through. We talked about tattooing and he showed me the jailhouse tattoos he'd done on himself before he became a professional tattoo artist. He made a mimeograph copy of the feather he had drawn, and pressed it onto my arm. He set out a tiny thimble of ink. He attached a rubber band to the tattoo gun. We were ready to go.
