Cecilia Tan
Writer, Editor and Activist
Yes, you've reached the official home page of Cecilia Tan, maintained
by yours truly, myself. It's a grab bag of goodies about me, from me,
written by me, etc. You can read some of my fiction and essays, learn
about my obsession with baseball, and get pictures of me and of my cats.

As any of you who check this page frequently may have noticed, this site has been a bit static since most of the journal type updating is happening now on my blog on LiveJournal: Pennae Aquilae. My tour dates and readings schedule is now found on BookTour.com.
You can follow me via "micro-blog" on Twitter, the site that asks only one question, "what are you doing right now?" Here's the answer:
Currently Reading
I try to read four books at a time, in four genres, but often I'm too busy to quite keep up with them all. So I kind of rotate them. I will also do the thing of keeping one book in the kitchen, one in the bathroom, one by the bed, one in my bag ... so they get read at different rates depending on how much time I spend in each place.
I'll be trying to update my books recently read on the web site Shelfari, so check there!
I don't know what's wrong with me lately. Since early 2006 I've found it hard to keep my attention on books. I think it's because I'm so frustrated with the book industry...
Same as last month mostly:
Literary: nothing right now
SF/F: Victory of Eagles by Naomi Novik
Essays: nothing right now
Nonfiction: The Greatest Game Ever Played
And then there are always sudoku and MegaTokyo.
More Stuff On My Site:
Some Other Things I'm Involved In:
- Jae Hun Kim Tae Kwon Do
Institute--where I've studied since 1991 and received my black
belt in 1996. I sometimes teach at the Cambridge location.
- The National Writers
Union--totally crucial stuff for anyone serious about writing for
a living, whether fiction, nonfiction, journalism, or what.
- Wind & Wood Flutes--from the autumn of 1990 through 2005, I
worked every September and October for Billy Miller, a flute maker, at King Richard's Faire in Carver, MA. Jeez, that's fifteen-plus years! Billy quit doing King Dick's in 2006 and I haven't been back since.
- The Pawtucket Slaterettes--an all-girls baseball league celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2003. They have an adults and older teens league as well and I played 5 seasons with them, before retiring on bad knees and failing eyesight.
- New England division of the North American Women's Baseball League -- Playing at Fraser Field, home of the independent league men's team, the North Shore Spirit!
- SABR Boston, the local chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research. We hosted the SABR national convention in 2002 and hold regional meetings, outings, etc... from time to time.
Some Other Stuff I Think Is Cool:
- my motorcycle (a cherry red Honda Shadow VT500c)
- my cats Tai Gau and Varenka (see images at left)
